Sorry this is such a late response, life got a little crazy after the wedding and then I completely forgot to respond! We were both blown away by1st Generation Band. We had high expectations based on what we read and heard online, and they not only met those expectations but exceeded them. The songs they picked for the song list based on our preferences were spot on we loved every song they played. A lot of our guests were on the dance floor the whole time they were playing because of the energy and passion of the band, as well as how good they sounded. We got a ton of compliments all night about how great they were. We were so happy to have them be a part of our day and would definitely recommend them to anyone else looking for a band for their wedding.

1st Generation Band was absolutely incredible. While they came highly recommended from you and we enjoyed their sizzle reel during the selection/booking process, we have to say that their live performance far exceeded our expectations. Many of our guests have commented that they were one of the best wedding bands they’ve ever seen, and we would happily agree.
Morris was a delight to work with. After being forced to cancel our wedding multiple times (due to COVID), his positive attitude and genuine excitement to perform made us equally excited for the big day to arrive. He was sincerely interested in gathering information ahead of time to ensure that the performance was exactly what we and our guests wanted. And boy, was it ever!
The day before the wedding, Morris contacted Matt to confirm that he had our correct “first dance” song selections. There was a discrepancy in what we provided the band vs. what our coordinator had noted within the timeline, so we greatly appreciated him reaching out to ensure it was right.
The day of the wedding, the band arrived early to do sound checks and make sure it wasn’t too loud for our guests in the ballroom. During the cocktail hour, we had arranged for a band member to play cocktail keys. One of our biggest regrets is that we did not forego the “couple’s private dining moment” to go downstairs and enjoy the music. We’ve heard he was amazing and that it really set the tone for the evening. Personally, I could tell how much I was going to love the band the second Matt and I made our grand entrance. They were super talented, high energy and found a way to be engaging while still maintaining safe distancing due to COVID.
Lastly, we’d be remiss if we did not mention how much we’ve appreciated Sam Hill and 1st Generation Band’s flexibility, patience and understanding over the past two years. In what was a really terrible time for both the couples trying to get married and the businesses/vendors impacted by constant cancellations and rescheduled events, you both constantly rolled with the punches and did everything you could to make our lives easier. THANK YOU SO MUCH, as not all vendors were as courteous.
Now, how do I go about booking 1st Generation Band for Matt’s 40th birthday? It’s only a few years away 😊

I can sum up our experience with the 1st Generation Band in one word AMAZING!!! They absolutely made the event the success that it was. They did a wonderful job with the songs they learned for the reception, including the couple's first dance (which was choreographed it looked like they had rehearsed with the band for hours!). They were WONDERFUL!! They exceeded our expectations and kept the dance floor high energy all night long! They even learned an intro to my husbands favorite song for us to walk out to last minute. I totally forgot to ask Morris to learn it until the Tuesday before the wedding and they still managed to pull it off and it sounded great! I told Morris I will definitely be recommending them in the future! The schedule of the wedding was constantly changing with times for cake cutting, sparkler exit, etc and they just continued to go with the flow and made things very easy! They were very accommodating and everyone I got a chance to interact with was very sweet! Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect band to lead the night.

I’m sorry it has taken me so long to get back with you about our experience with 1st Generation. It is not at all a reflection of our love for the band nor experience with them. We LOVED 1st Generation. They did a good job picking the songs to play during the evening and did a wonderful job with our first dance songs. Our guests and parents loved that they played during dinner in addition to playing during the dancing portion of the evening. There was never a shortage of people on the dance floor (and they didn’t even need to bust out songs like the Cupid shuffle to keep the dancing going a testament to their skill). They were very, very good. We had several people at the reception who are musicians/have a good ear for music and have been to a lot of weddings. All of them spoke highly of the band and talked about how good they were. I am also a huge fan of Morris. He was so kind, accommodating, and a joy to work with. Thanks so much for setting us up with them!!

The 1st Generation Band came highly recommended to us by my aunt and uncle who went to a New Year's Eve party that they were playing at a few years ago, and we are so happy that we took their recommendation!
Morris was wonderful to work with, I have a pretty hectic job and he was so patient with me while we were trying to coordinate and nail everything down for the wedding. He was so helpful, funny, and kind!
Many of our guests have since asked us about the band, and complimented what a great job they did! Our photographers told us that our reception was the most fun reception that they had ever covered!
We had a wonderful time, and they played all of the songs that I asked them to play, they had great energy, and they even let one of our very close family friends who is a singer, join them on stage for a song! Their high energy and great song choices even had my husband on the dance floor, and as far as i'm concerned, that made it a successful night for me!
It was such a perfect night, and we are so glad that we chose them for our entertainment!

The First Generational Band was EXACTLY what I was looking for in a band for my daughter's wedding. Their range was unequalled. A three piece jazz group broke off from the main band and entertained during our outdoor garden cocktail hour. It dripped with class and cool. For the main reception and dance, the music progressed seamlessly from 60's beach music and Franki Valli to old school R &B and a Motown zap! The last hour was contemporary music with a urban punch. We were a mixed race, multiethnic group, ages from 92 to 5 months.

The band was AMAZING!! They totally made the party our guests had the best time with them. 1st Generation kept the party going, were so easy and delightful to work with! The event planner at the Brewery said they were the best band he'd heard play there and he has heard a lot! A couple of our guests are musicians, singer/songwriters and they were blown away! We could not have asked for a better band than 1st Generation for our special day. Our wedding was on July 5th, 2014, and my husband and I were able to celebrate our heart out with our family and friends dancing with 1st Generation's spirit and music.
From our initial rehearsal meeting to the final meeting, Morris, 1st Generation Band Leader, has been prompt and sensitive to our requests and narratives. They listened to our stories and respected our passion for music, our family stories, and how special we wanted our wedding reception to be.
Everyone loved them. Even the stoic Asian elders who find themselves difficult dancing in public! Our mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, and nephews danced and cried with 1st Generation's music. The most memorable moment was when everyone was dancing in circle, mixed with smiles and tears, then they played our last song, Georgia On My Mind so beautifully.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank 1st Generation, every musician and singer!, for making our wedding night the most unforgettable.

From the start, Morris was amazing! Not only was he highly responsive, but he was agreeable to any requests we had for our wedding reception. We even had some strict restrictions on space but they were able to accommodate and still have the full band perform.
My fiance and I have VERY different taste in music and so we had to change a few things... a few times. We even made a mistake with the father/daughter and mother/son dance at the reception but we told the band and they just rolled with it and played another song so my fiance and his mother could have their own dance.
We selected a Bruce Springsteen song for our first dance and initially, we thought it would be best if we just played it on an iPod or CD. However, Morris suggested that the band learn the song and perform it THEY WERE AMAZING. Dennis sang it perfectly and it was SO much better than we had ever imagined.
The band kept the energy up all night and I spent way too much time on the dance floor! At the end of the night, they were NOT ready to stop playing and we weren't ready to stop dancing. We had to have our wedding planner tell us 3 times that our car had arrived and it was time to go.
After the wedding, I had SEVERAL guests comment on how wonderful the band was and that they hadn't danced that much in 20 years.
In short, I could not have asked for a better band. They were professional, courteous, responsive, and so much FUN!! I would recommend 1st Generation to anyone looking for a band for their event. We have already decided we will be having a 5 year anniversary party and 1st Generation will be booked.

Hope you're well! I don't have enough positive things to say about the band. As you said when I booked, Morris was very responsive and pleasant about my requests for songs and apt to connect with the general feeling of our reception. Once the dancing started the band truly fueled the party and had amazing energy. Everyone was begging them to play for another hour when it was almost midnight. Their impression on our friends and family was certainly lasting based on the breakfast convos the next day too haha

Hey Beth! The band was incredible! They put on a hell of a show. Everyone at the party was dancing their socks off. I would recommend them to anyone. Morris sent me the setlist about a month before the wedding so i could review it. we only had to make a couple of revisions. We also requested that they learn one song. They did it without question and performed it about as perfect as you could expect.
I have a few friends that are either currently engaged or will be soon. I'll be sure to pass along your info to them when they need it.

As requested, I have typed up a recommendation that can be used however you please. We had so much fun with the band and hope I can use them again should we ever throw another large scale party :) Thanks for all your help!
My husband and I were married in April of this year in Nashville, TN. We both had different thoughts on the wedding, but agreed on one thing….good music! We searched around through various local bands and online through different resources. When we heard 1st Generation Band we instantly agreed that we had to have them!
1st Generation Band worked with us to make sure we had the music we wanted. We ultimately wanted a good old school Motown/Funk band that would keep the crowd dancing. They were able to play a variety of music from Jazz (great for the parents in the beginning!) to the good old stuff, as well as great new R&B and soul. The crowd danced until the venue closed and they even accommodated our request for our 1st dance and father/daughter dance! The band also did us a special favor in playing Rocky Top to close out the night (UT Alumni and fans!).
Band member Morris Drane worked hard to make sure the night was exactly as we wanted it. I would use them again for any event and would highly recommend them in the future!

First Generation, Wow! What a BLAST we had at our outdoor wedding reception on 10.13.2012! Morris was so very accommodating and prompt from the start. 1st Generation Band is one of the best bands we have ever hired for a corporate event! They are talented, energetic, fun, interactive, and can get the crowd engaged in the music. They played a variety of music and played all genres very well. Guests kept coming up to us to tell us how fabulous the band is. They were a pleasure to work with and met our every request. Prior to the event they returned phone calls and emails to questions in a timely manner. From my initial inquiry to our firework finale, they were attentive. They certainly deserve the honor of the 2011 Gigmaster Top Performer! Kudos to Morris, Kim, and one of the coolest bands I've worked with!

Tooie's Touch Formal Nite Out 2012 was truly a smash! 1st Generation Band pumped the party up to another level from the time they entered the stage until the finale. Having a mixed crowd from age 28 to 91 years old, they catered to the crowd and played hits from The Temptations to Adele. What talent! At the Blase` Formal Event 1st Generation Band exceeded my expectation with their diversity of performance with their smooth jazz and popping R&B sounds. I was most impressed with their personal dress appearance and professionalism. Mr. Drane showed personal attention to our guest during their break time.
